With no Steyr-Werke AG works team present at the 1927 Targa Florio, the only Austrian racing car was entered privately by Saverio Candrilli, Sicilian from Palermo. He drove 6-cylinder 4.4 litre Steyr VI. Candrilli stopped his car in Collesano on lap 3with a broken rear wheel, which he replaced, but at Campofelice he stopped again with another broken wheel and had to retire because he had used up all his spare wheels.
