1985 Lola THL1 Jones

Legendary team owner Carl Haas had already competed successfully for nearly two decades in all major American road racing series when he entered Formula 1 towards the end of 1985. He was backed by Beatrice Foods and the Ford Motor Company and hired an all-star team of people that included former McLaren owners Teddy Mayer and Tyler Alexander as well as promising designers Neil Oatley, John Baldwin and Ross Brawn. The THL1 designed by Neil Oatley and powered by 750 bhp  turbocharged Hart 415T Straight 4 engine made its debut at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. The1980 World Champion Alan Jones, who was making a full-time comeback to Formula One at the age of 39, qualified 25th but retired after just 6 laps due to an overheating engine. The two other races at the end of the season, at Spa and Adelaide, also ended up with technical retirements for the Australian veteran.
