The N174 was designed for the 1974 season. While new N175 was under construction, the team used N174 in the first half of the 1975 season. For 1975 Ensign was sponsored by Dutch alarm systems company HB Bewaking leading them to sign Dutch drivers Rob Wunderink and Gijs van Lennep. Both Dutchmen drove one car in turn. Wunderink was at the wheel in Spain and Monaco, then in Britain, and again in Austria, Italy and USA. Van Lennep drove in between – in Netherlands, France and Germany. Wunderink did not have much success, qualifying for three races and finishing one. Gijs van Lennep qualified for all his races and took sixth place in Germany, securing first points for Ensign in Formula One.
