The team was founded by Swiss slot machine magnate Walter Brun, who owned and ran the Brun Motorsport sports car team, and Giampaolo Pavanello, owner ofs Euroracing team, who had also run the factory-backed Alfa Romeo Formula One team from 1982–85. In their debut 1988 season Mario Tolentino designed the ER188 chassis, powered by a normally-aspirated 3.5-litre Cosworth DFZ engine. 1987 Formula 3000 champion Stefano Modena and long-time Brun sportscar driver Oscar Larrauri were signed to drive. Both drivers failed to qualify at certain events (Modena missing out four times and being excluded from another two races for technical infringements, and Larrauri failing seven times). Modena’s 11th place at the Hungarian Grand Prix was the team’s best result of the year. Larrauri’s only finish was 13th place in the Mexican Grand Prix. The team used blank white livery in the most of the race with Marlboro and Tommasini sponsorship later the season. In the final round, the Australian Grand Prix the car was painted in yellow-white colors with MSOS as the main sponsor.
