Vince Granatelli Racing was founded by younger brother of Andy Granatelli, whose turbine powered cars  nearly won the Indianapolis 500 in 1967 and 1968. The Vince’s team competed in the CART PPG IndyCar World Series between 1987 and 1991. For all of the team’s existence, the cars were painted in a dayglow red livery meant to be a tribute to Andy Granatelli’s STP-sponsored Indy cars. In the 1990 CART season team’s major entry was #9 Tuneup Masters Lola T88/00-Buick 3300 V6 driven by Belgian Didier Theys. For Indianapolis 500 Vince entered two more Penske PC17-Buick cars – #9 RCA for veteran Tom Sneva, and #11 Tuneup Masters for ex-Formula 1 pilot Kevin Cogan. Cogan qualified 15th and finished the race in 8th place, being flagged after his 191 lap. Theys was 10th, while Sneva retired early in the race.
