New rules introduced in 1981 CART season dictated that naturally aspirated Chevrolet and Cosworth engines would have to replace the newly outlawed turbocharged powerplants previously allowed. In 1981 Dan Gurney turned the All American Racers on it’s head with this radical design Eagle powered by a stock block Chevy engine. The works yellow car, sponsored by Pepsi Challenger, was raced by Mike Mosley and Geoff Brabham replacing Mosley at Riverside and Mexico City. Another ’81 Eagle powered by Cosworth was run by Space Racing team for Chip Mead. Blue White Castle – sponsored Eagle raced in two 1981 CART rounds, and Mead was 27th in Michigan 500 and 14th in 200 mile race at Phoenix. Mead started out in Formula Atlantic Championship in 1974, raced in F3 in England for a year with Doug Shierson, and made six starts in the CART Series between 1980 and 1983. His best finish was a 9th at Phoenix in 1981, but he was best known as a sports car driver.
The 1981 Eagle Pepsi Challenger and White Castle models were produced by American Automodello brand in limited tribute edition.

this car tried to qualify at Indy. I don’t think he made it. I had t-shirt of the car we bought at the 16tn street White Castle across from the Speedway
