Arrows A6 was designed by David Wass and was raced in the 1983 and 1984 seasons. The A6 became a modest development of the reasonable A5, mostly focused on making it comply with the new regulations that banned refuelling and ground effects, in favour of a flat bottom with a diffuser as the back. An important decision in this respect was the centrally mounted fuel tank, in between the cockpit and the front of the engine, forced the engine to be mounted a little further back than would usually be wanted, giving the car an unusually heavy rear end. The A6 used a honeycomb monocoque frame, as a carbon fibre chassis was too expensive for Arrows. Arrows were one of the last teams to secure a contract for turbocharged engines, so the 1983 Arrows A6 had to use Cosworth DFV engines. The car #29 was piloted by Marc Surer through the whole season, while car #30 initially handed to Chico Serra was given to Thierry Boutsen since the 1983 Belgian Grand Prix. The team experienced financial difficulties and changed sponsors and liveries from race to race.
