The AT02, the second car to be built and run under the AlphaTauri name, was powered by Honda RA621H engine. French Pierre Gasly was retained by AlphaTauri for 2021. He partnered by Japanese rookie Yuki Tsunoda, who replaced Russian Daniil Kvyat. Gasly scored points in the majority of the races and outperformed his young teammate. Gasly’s highest achievement of the season was 3rd place in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix at Baku street circuit. For the Turkish Grand Prix at Istanbul circuit Honda clients Red Bull and AlphaTauri used special Honda tribute liveries, as Japanese engine supplier announced the quit from Formula 1. Unlike Red Bull, AlphaTauri’s special livery differed from a regular one by just featuring the word arigato (thank you in Japanese) on the rear wing of the car.
