2021 Haas VF-21 Mazepin

Haas VF-21, designed by the team led by technical director Simone Resta, was an absolute outsider of the season. Ferrari-powered car driven by rookie drivers Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher scored zero points. The choice of inexperienced drivers due to financial and marketing reasons superimposed on the unsuccessful car resulted in the complete fiasco. Haas cars were much slower than any rival in the qualifying and raced in the back of the grid, finishing usually laps down from the winner. As to drivers, 2020 Formula 2 champion Mick Schumacher, son of seven-time Formula One World Champion Michael Schumacher, was known by slow adaptation to new series since his Formula 3 career. Potentially quick but over-crash driver brought significant public and media attention and some more money to the team, but, probably cost the team more due to the large number of broken cars. Nikita Mazepin, sometimes fast but unstable, who finished 5th in the Formula 2 in 2020, appeared in the team due to Haas title sponsor, Uralkali,  Russian potash fertilizer producer and exporter, whose major shareholder is Nikita’s father Dmitry Mazepin.
