





In the 1921 Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft team started in the Targa Florio for the first time after the war. The car was 1914 Mercedes modified 28/95 type, called Sport, with a 6-cylinder (105 x 140 mm) 7274 cc engine, delivering peak power of 110 hp at 2000 rpm. The car was driven by Max Sailer, and Christian Lautensclager, winner of the 1914 French Grand Prix was a reserve driver. The second 28/95 type Sport car painted red was entered by Italian Carlo Ferrario. Sailer finished second behind Giulio Masetti in a racing Fiat. Ferrario retired after his car spun off the road on lap one 10 km after the start.
