For the 1936 racing season Alfa Romeo continued developing the Tipo 8C-35 car putting in a new 4.1 litre V12 engine. The new model was known as the Tipo 12C-36. The 12C-36 made its debut in Tripoli Grand Prix 1936. Scuderia Ferrari sent four cars for 1936 Vanderbilt Cup at Roosevelt Raceway in New York. Three 12-cylinders cars were raced by Tazio Nuvolari, Antonio Brivio and Giuseppe “Nino” Farina, and one 8-cylinder was seen in practice only driven by reserve driver Attilio Marinoni. Nuvolari won the race ahead of Jean-Pierre Wimille in Bugatti T59. Brivio was 3rd, and Farina retired due to steering problems.
