2021 Alpine A521 Ocon

Before the 2021 season Renault F1 team was renamed Alpine. The cars were run in French blue with a French flag pattern towards the rear. The A521 was just a slight modification of Renault R.S. 20 from the previous season. The car was driven by Fernando Alonso, marking his return to the sport, and Esteban Ocon. Fernando’s best result was 3rd place at the Qatar Grand Prix, and he finished the season 9th with 81 points. Esteban Ocon was 11th with 74 points. But he brought the only victory of the season to the French team winning the Hungarian Grand Prix – with the very significant help from Alonso, who held Lewis Hamilton back for a long time. To celebrate 100 Grand Prix as part of their partnership with lubricant supplier Castrol, at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix both of Alpine’s A521 cars featured a green ‘100 Races With Renault’ design on the engine cover alongside a ‘Renault recommends Castrol’ logo on the rear wing. Castrol has supplied Alpine with their engine oils and lubricants since 2017.
