





Japanese major formula championship, now known as Japanese Super Formula, was held in 1996 – 2012 as Formula Nippon. In the 2003 season Formula Nippon’s contract with Reynard had expired and all teams had to use Lola chassis (Lola B3/51) and Mugen Honda (Mugen MF308) engines. Frenchman Benoit Treluyer partnered Japanese Satoshi Motoyama in Impul team for 2003 season. He won two races (at Fuji Speedway and Mine Circuit) and ended the season 2nd behind his teammate. Frenchman continued to compete in Formula Nippon until 2009, winning the title in 2006 and finished vice-champion two more times in 2007 and 2009. Treluyer is also Japanese Super GT champion of 2006 and Le Mans 24 hours overall winner in 2011, 2012 and 2014, where he drove for Audi with Andre Lotterer and Marcel Faessler.
