IRL champion of the 1996-97 season Tony Stewart in 1998 continued with Team Menard, combining open wheel racing with a full season in NASCAR Nationwide series. Team Menard stated IRL season with G-Force in first two races (Stewart won at Walt Disney World and was second at Phoenix), and then switched to Dallara. In Italian chassis Stewart was able to win only once (at New Hampshire), and finished his last full season in Indycar 3rd.
