Volvo C303 is the model of cross country military vehicle manufactured by Volvo in 1974-1984. The model was produced both in 4×4 (C303) and 6×6 (C306) versions. The 4×4 variant was compact (length 5.34 m, wheelbase 2.3 m) vehicle powered by Volvo B30 petrol engine. A total 8718 vehicles of the C3 series were made, 75% of this went into military service. In the 1983 Paris-Dakar rally two teams from Volvo Trucks entered the race. A Volvo C303, driven by Hasse Henriksson finished 20th overall and 2nd amongst the trucks, winning the class for trucks under 10 tonnes. The C303 were entered by Volvo in almost stock configuration – only external roll bar and additional 80 gallons gas tank were added. Now the Dakar C303 is on display in the Volvo museum in Gothenburg. Hasse Henriksson was back in Dakar in 1986, again driving a stock C303. This time his Swedish-Greek team together with Athanare Papadimitriou and Borje Rosvall was placed fifth amongst all trucks and second in the light truck class.
