1955 Morris Commercial – British Motors Corporation (Le Mans)

The British Motors Corporation (BMC) was founded in 1952 by merging Morris Motors, owner of  Morris, MG, Riley, and Wolseley makes, and the Austin Motor Company. In 1955 the  Competitions Department of BMC was established at Abingdon on Thames. The first event entered by Abingdon-prepared cars was the 1955 Monte Carlo Rally with three MG Magnettes and three Austin Westminsters taking part.  BMC Competitions Department continued to take part in various races to its closure in 1986. The original Morris Commercial  transporter was built by BMC in 1955 to provide support at the 1955 Le Mans race. It was continued to be used for many years afterwards.
