British American Racing team was in the third year in Formula One. After disappointing debut in 1999, 2000 season was more promising, and in 2001 BAR continued to fight for the positions in the mid of the grid. BAR car for 2001 season was designed by Malcolm Oastler and was powered by Honda V10 engine. BAR 003 was driven by Jacques Villeneuve who was with the team since its foundation, and Olivier Panis, who joined BAR from a year out of racing as McLaren’s test driver. Villeneuve was able to get 2 podium finishes at Spain and Germany. Panis’ pushed him hard throughout the season, but was less lucky with lot of retirements due to technical reasons. Best result of the Frenchman was 4th position at Interlagos. Panis was 14th in the Championship standings with 5 points while Villeneuve was classified 7th scoring 12 points.
