March 701 was the first F1 design by March Engineering. Despite Jackie Stewart has described the car as “the most difficult F1 car I drove”, he was able to achieve the maiden victory for the constructor in its second Championship’ race at 1970 Spanish GP in Jarama. March 701 throughout 1970 season was used by many entrants, including the March works team, Ken Tyrrell Racing Organization and STP Corporation. French driver Georges-Francis “Johnny” Servoz-Gavin was teamed up with Jacky Stewart in Tyrrell’s squad at the beginning of the season. He finished 5th (yet last) in the Spanish Grand Prix at Jarama. Then Johnny, who suffered an eye injury in an off-road event in the winter of 1969–70, after hitting a barrier and failing to qualify for the 1970 Monaco Grand Prix, decided to retire.
