Sauber Formula One team made his debut in the F1 World Championship with this car in 1993. The car was designed by Harvey Postlethwaite and Leo Ress. The C12 was powered by a Sauber-branded 3.5-litre V10 built by Ilmor in partnership with Mercedes. In recognition of the contribution of the German company Sauber cars had “Concept by Mercedes-Benz” stickers on the engine cowling. Finn J.J. Lehto (Jyrki Järvilehto) and Austrian Karl Wendlinger were the team drivers in its debut season. Lehto launched the team with the promising 5th place at the maiden Grand Prix in South Africa. Later the season he scored 4th place in San Marino and was 13th in the final driver’s standings. Five his points plus 7 by Wendlinger put Sauber to 7th position in the Constructor’s Championship.
