Sauber Formula One team made his debut in the F1 World Championship with this car in 1993. The car was designed by Harvey Postlethwaite and Leo Ress. The C12 was powered by a Sauber-branded 3.5-litre V10 built by Ilmor in partnership with Mercedes. In recognition of the contribution of the German company Sauber cars had “Concept by Mercedes-Benz” stickers on the engine cowling. Finn J.J. Lehto (Jyrki Järvilehto) and Austrian Karl Wendlinger were the team drivers in its debut season. Wendlinger, who drove for Sauber-Mercedes in the World Sportscar Championship re-united with Peter Sauber after 2 years in Leyton House – March team. Despite a lot of retirements due to technical reasons, Wendlinger scored several point finishes and was placed 12th in the Driver’s Championship with 7 points.
