David Fry and Alec Issigonis partnered in 1958 to build a formula 2 car. John Parkes, former employer of Issigonis at Alvis, brought his son Mike Parkes as a development driver. Fry F2 was designed according to Formula 2 specifications, but had several advanced features – a semi-monocoque design, an extreme forward driving position and a shark fin on its rear. The car was powered by Coventry-Climax FPF engine, as many other British formula single-seaters those days. Fry debuted at Brands hatch on 8 June 1958 in BRSCC Formula 2 race. Parkes finished this short 10 minutes race on 12th and last position. In 1958-59 the car driven by Parkes appeared in many British F2 races as well as in some non-championship events. In 1959 the car was entered for the Formula One 1959 British Grand Prix. Parkes did not qualify for the race, setting the 27th fastest time. The car was not seen after 1959 while Parkes returned to F1 in 1966-67 to become Ferrari driver. The scale model is a built kit by Villa Model. Mike Parkes raced Fry #129 at Silverstone Club Formula Libre (19.09.59 ) and retired lap 6 when leading due to gearbox problems. Thanks to Claudio Villa for attributing the model to the race.
