Grand Prix History in Scale Models

1961 JBW Naylor

John Brian Naylor, amateur British racing driver, was a regular entrant in British formula 1 and 2 races, and occasionally was seen in non-British races in Europe. In 1957-58 he tried his abilities in a couple of Grand Epreuves driving Cooper-Climax vehicle. This experience inspired him to build his own F1 car, the task he assigned to his fellow mechanic Fred Wilkinson. The first version of the front-engined  F1 car christened JBW after the initials of Naylor and Wilkinson, was powered by Maserati L4 motor and was raced by Naylor in 1959 and 1960. For 1961 Wilkinson built JBW Type 2 with Climax F4 engine positioned behind the drivers’ seat. Naylor raced it in the Italian Grand Prix, as well as in a couple of the minor races, with equally unsuccessful outcomes. This simple scale model is made by Claudio Villa, Villamodel.
