The FW07 in the 07B specification brought 1980 drivers’ (with Alan Jones) and constructors’ titles to Williams team. Meanwhile the car in its original variant presented in 1979 (FW07) was also available for RAM and Brands Hatch Racing private teams. Brands Hatch racing entered Desire Wilson for the 1980 British Grand Prix. Wilson, born in South Africa, in 1978-80 drove in Aurora AFX British F1 Championship. In 1980 she won Evening News Trophy at Brands Hatch, became the first and so far the only woman to win an F1 race. Her success in British F1 drew the attention of John McDonald from RAM racing F1 team. He entered Wilson for the British GP under the banner of Brands Hatch Racing team. Desire failed to qualify for the race. Next year she took part in South African GP which was downgraded as non-championship event due to FISA – FOCA controversy.
