Grand Prix History in Scale Models

2006, Juan Pablo Montoya, Mclaren, Minichamps

2006 McLaren MP4-21 Montoya

The MP4-21 was the first McLaren car powered by purely Mercedes-Benz engines after 11 years partnership with Ilmor as an engine builder. The chassis was designed by the team leaded by Adrian Newey as technical director. The car were driven by Kimi Raikkonen and Juan Pablo Montoya. MP4-21 was not so competitive as its predecessor, MP4-20 from the 2005. It never won the Grand Prix – the Finn scored  6 podium finishes , and  the Columbian finished 3rd at Imola   and 2nd in Monaco before retiring from the team and from F1 after the US Grand Prix. Montoya signed the contract with Chip Ganassi Racing to drive in NASCAR from 2007 and Ron Dennis offered Montoya an early exit from his contract with McLaren, provided that he resigned from receiving any payout to terminate his contract. Montoya finished the season in 8th position in the Drivers’ Championship. The scale  model by Minichamps is from Michelin special limited edition, so the figure of Bibandum (Tyre Man), an official mascot of the Michelin tyre company, is included in the set.
