In October 2007 Indian businessman Vijay Mallya bought the Spyker F1 team (ex-Midland, ex-Jordan) and formed new Force India Formula One Team, which raced under Indian license and was based in Silverstone. The first Force India car, named VJM01 after initials of team principal, was slightly modified 2007 Spyker V8-VIIB. It was powered by Ferrari 056 engine developed 750 hp, but used 2007-spec engines instead of 2008-specification. The sponsorship came from Mallya owned Kingfisher Airlines (now defunct). In the driver line-up Adrian Sutil, who drove for Spyker, was joined by experienced Italian Giancarlo Fisichella. The first season for the Indian team was disappointing. Both drivers failed to score a single point. Fisichella achieved the best finish of tenth at the Spanish Grand Prix, and Sutil’s best was 13th place in Belgium.
