The Ferrari 412 T1 was designed by John Barnard and Gustav Brunner for the 1994 f1 season. It was powered by a 3.5 litre V12 engine. In the name of the new car, the 4 stood for the number of valves per cylinder while the 12 was for the number of cylinders and the T referred to the transverse gearbox with its six normal gears and one reverse. The Ferrari 412T1 was used during the first part of the season, until it was replaced by the 412T1B due to the extensive changes that were made during the season. The Type 41 engine was replaced by the Type 43 engine in qualifying as of the San Marino GP, and in races as of the German GP in Hockenheim, then already in the 412T1B. The Type 43 engine was a complete new design, done by Claudio Lombardi and Osamu Goto, featuring a wider V-angle between the cylinder banks and a shorter stroke. The car was driven by Jean Alesi and Gerhard Berger, throughout the season, except during the Pacific and San Marino GPs, where Nicola Larini replaced the injured Alesi. The French driver scored 4 podiums with second place in the British Grand Prix as his best finish. Jean was placed 5th in the championship standing with 24 points. Gerhard Berger has performed much better. The Austrian won the German Grand Prix (the only victory for Ferrari in 1994), and scored 3 second and 2 third places. He finished the championship on the 3rd place in the drivers’ table with 41 points. See also the model of 412T1B of Jean Alesi by Onyx.
