1990 Coloni C3B Gachot

The C3B model was the updated version of Coloni C3 designed by Christian Vanderpleyn for the 1989 Formula One season. In C3B  Cosworth DFR motor was replaced by a Subaru 1235 flat-12 engine. However Japanese power unit was too heavy and underpowered. Bertran Gachot, the only Coloni driver in 1990, failed to pre-qualify in all 8 first races of the season where C3B was used. Then Enzo Colini returned once again to Cosworth DFR in newly developed C3C. The performance of the “C” specification was slightly better – Gachot usually was able to pre-qualify, but never managed to qualify for a race.
