The MCL35 was designed by James Key, powered by Renault E-tech 20 engine and driven by Carlos Sainz from Spain and British Lando Norris. The improved aerodynamics and qualities of the power unit made the car very competitive. For Lando the season started with 3rd place finish in Austrian Grand Prix, first podium for the young driver. Both Norris and Sainz, whose best finish was 2nd position at the Italian Grand Prix, scored enough points to take third place in the Constructors’ Championship, McLaren’s best finish since the 2012 season.
