Grand Prix History in Scale Models

2001, David Coulthard, Mclaren, Minichamps

2001 McLaren MP4-16 Coulthard

The car was designed by Adrian Newey, Steve Nichols, Neil Oatley and Peter Prodromou with Mario Illien designing the bespoke Ilmor engine. McLaren with Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard driving silver cars for the sixth consecutive season, took the second position in the Constructors’s Cup third year in a row, but the gap with Ferrari continued to grow. David Coulthard, who outperformed Mika Hakkinen only second time out of six seasons together, scored almost twice less points than champion Michael Schumacher. David won in Brazil and Austria, Mika took British and US Grands Prix. McLaren major sponsor was West cigarettes brand, and silver cars carried  ‘West’ logos, except at the French and British Grands Prix, where driver’s names were displayed instead.
