Team Green, founded by Barry Green with his brother Kim Green as team manager, since 1997 was known as KOOL Team Green as KOOL cigarettes came on board as major sponsor. In 1998 Green expanded to a two-car effort with Paul Tracy and rising star Dario Franchitti. The two stayed on as teammates for five seasons. In the 2000 CART season Green used Reynard 2KI chassis and Honda HR-0 engine. The 2KI is a development of the championship-winning 99I. The new aerodynamic rules for 2000 led to a revised gearbox, underfloor and sidepods. The chassis construction is of carbon/Kevlar skins with an aluminium honeycomb core. Chassis weight is around 60 kgs and torsional stiffness approximately 20,000 foot-pounds per degree. The 2KI cockpit and driver were lowered to have less frontal area for improved aerodynamics and to have a lower centre of gravity. The gearbox and the complete selector mechanism, designed by Reynard in conjunction with Xtrac, have the transverse layout introduced in 1997. The 2000 season was quite successful for Tracy as he won at Long Beach, Road America and Vancouver and finished fifth in the championship. His teammate Dario Franchitti achieved several podiums and took 13th position in the final standings.
