Tyrrell Racing Organization was born in 1958 running F3 cars for some British drivers including Ken Tyrrell himself. In the sixties TRO played in F2 league with French Matra cars before moving to F1 in 1968. In 1966-67 seasons Formula 2 cars were entered in some F1 World Championship races in their own separate class. Tyrrell’s Marta MS5 cars were among these F2 entries. The model represents Jacky Ickx’s F2 car from 1966 German GP. Ickx qualified for the race in 16th position, best of 11 F2 cars entered, but retired on first lap after collision with the British driver John Taylor. Matra MS5 of Jacky Ickx and the privately-entered Brabham BT11 of John Taylor crashed near the bridge between Quiddelbacher and Flugplatz. Taylor was badly burned in the accident and succumbed to his injuries four weeks later.
