The C36 is Sauber’s 25th car in Formula One, hence the team chose to colour it in a celebration livery with blue and gold. The chassis was designed by Jörg Zander, Eric Gandelin, and Nicolas Hennel with the car being powered with a customer Ferrari powertrain. Driven by Marcus Ericsson and Pascal Wehrlein (Antonio Giovinazzi drove the car in Wehrlein’s place in two first rounds after Wehrlein’s pre-season injury), the C36 was slowest car on the grid. Ericsson did not score a single point, and Wehrlein collected 8th place in Spain and 10th position in Azerbaijan. Sauber ended the 2017 campaign with just 5 points and last position in the Constructors’ standings.
