Karl Kling was the part of Mercedes-Benz Formula One team in 194-1955 seasons. He finished second in the 1954 French Grand Prix, the race where Mercedes returned to Grand Prix racing. In the 1955 season he was 3rd at the British Grand Prix. Kling won the only non-championship event where Daimler-Benz factory team took part – the 1954 Berlin Grand Prix. The event held on September 19 at AVUS was intended as a celebration of the championship won by Mercedes driver Juan Manuel Fangio. Fangio led from the pole, and set the fastest lap, but backed off near the end to give victory to teammate and German driver Karl Kling. Fangio finished half a second back, and the other Mercedes of Hans Herrmann was another 0.4 seconds behind.
