The FW08 was used by Finnish driver Keke Rosberg to win the 1982 World Drivers’ Championship. The car was designed by Frank Dernie and debuted at the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix held at Zolder. While McLaren and Lotus pioneered the use of carbon fibre chassis, Williams stuck to aluminium honeycomb for the new car. The Ford Cosworth powered FW08 featured a shorter wheelbase and much stiffer chassis that its predecessor, the FW07. Rosberg won the only one round in 1982, the Swiss Grand Prix held at Dijon, but and scored several other podium places to snatch the championship.
