British racing driver Mark Taylor in 2003 dominated the IRL support series, American Infiniti Pro Series, winning 7 of the 12 races in the season driving for the Fulmar Panther team. In 2004 Taylor graduated to the IndyCar Series driving the #2 Menard Dallara. Team Menard merged into the Panther Racing team to form Menard-Panther Racing and would field Menard’s #2 Johns Manville/Menards Dallara IR03-Chevrolet, while Tomas Scheckter drove #4 Pennzoil Dallara. Taylor struggled to adapt to the top series. He was involved in accidents in five of his six starts (including the Indy 500) before he was dropped in favor of Townsend Bell. Taylor moved to Greg Ray’s Access Motorsports for the remainder of the season and was able to finish 3 timed in the top-10. His final position in the championship was 17th with 232 points.
