





Josef Newgarden won 2011 Indy Lights series and raced in InsdCars since 2012 in three various teams, winning three races in 2015 and 2016 seasons. For 2017 he signed a multi-season deal with Team Penske, undoubted series leading team alongside Chip Ganassi Racing. Newgarden won his first race with Team Penske during round 3 of the 2017 season at Barber Motorsports Park; clinching the victory after a duel with Scott Dixon in the final laps. Josef continued his winning series in Toronto, Mid-Ohio and Gateway, and secured his first championship in close battle with his teammate Simon Pagenaud, 2016 series champion, and Chip Ganassi driver Scott Dixon. Newgarden used five different liveries throughout the season. This silver Verizon variant was used only in the first round of the championship in the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Other liveries were black and blue Hum by Verizon used in eight out of 17 races of the season (at Phoenix, Texas, Long Beach, IndyCar Grand Prix, Indy 500, two races at Detroit and at Sonoma), black and green Fitzgerald Glider (Barber, Iowa and Pocono), blue and white PPG Pants (Mid Ohio and Gateway), and orange and white deVillbiss (Road America, Toronto and Watkins Glen).
