HRT F111, or Hispania F111, as the car was known during the first half of the 2011 season, was the second F1 car for Hispania Racing Team, Spanish Formula One entity. The F111 was an evolution of the Dallara designed F110 which competed in the 2010 Formula One season. The financially restricted team chose to keep the same monocoque to be able to skip some of the crash tests. Hispania recruited designer Geoff Willis as a consultant to improve the existing chassis. The car was powered by Cosworth CA2011 V8 engine and was driven by Indian Narain Karthikeyan, Italian Vitantonio Liuzzi and Australian  Daniel Ricciardo. The F111 starts the season with zero testing kilometers, just like its predecessor, and along with Lotus-Renault and Virgin, was sentenced to the last places on the starting grid and in the peloton. Karthikeyan twice set the record for the lowest placed finisher in a Formula 1 event, finishing first in 23rd place in the Chinese Grand Prix and then 24th in the European Grand Prix at Valencia. In the mid-season Thesan Capital, a Madrid-based investment company purchased a controlling stake in the team from owner Jose Ramon Carabante, and the team was officially renamed from “Hispania Racing F1 Team” to HRT. Vitantonio Liuzzi joined Hispania for 2011 season after five years in Red Bull, Toro Rosso and Force India. He recorded one DNQ, five retirements, and 12 race finishes (best place 13th in Canada) in his last year in Formula One.
