2011 Lotus-Renault T128 Chandhok

In their second year in Formula One, Team Lotus in its new reincarnation built a new car, T128. Designed by Mike Gascoyne, Lewis Butler and Marianne Hinson, new car was  vastly different from that of 2010 with a higher, wider and more curvy nose cone. Competitive drivers Jarno Trulli and  Heikki Kovalainen drove for the team for the second season. But despite all improvements, the team was unable to bridge the gap to the lower midfield over the course of the season, generally being slower than closest rivals Toro Rosso and Williams but solidly ahead of HRT and Marussia Virgin. Indian driver Karun Chandhok was reserve driver for Team Lotus in 2011 and got the chance to race only once when he replaced Trulli for the German Grand Prix. He finished 20th and last, two laps behind teammate Heikki Kovalainen and four laps behind race winner Lewis Hamilton.
