The Penske PC-22 was designed by Nigel Bennett to race in the 1993 PPG Indy Car World Series. The car was powered by Ilmor-Chevrolet V8 engine and was driven by Team Penske pilots Emerson Fittipaldi and Paul Tracy. The PC-22 was also entered by Bettenhausen Motorsports for Stefan Johansson. The season consisted of 16 races and was dominated by 1992 Formula One champion Nigel Mansell. 47-years old Fittipaldi won 3 races including Indianapolis 500, and was runner-up just 8 points behind Mansell. Canadian Paul Tracy was in his first full year of IndyCar competition, where he won five times with his first win coming at Long Beach and the others at Cleveland, Toronto, Road America and Laguna Seca. Tracy led the series in laps led and finished the championship in 3rd position.
