Tom Walkinshow bought the Arrows from one of its founders, Jackie Oliver during 1996, so 1997 was the first season for Tom Walkinshaw’s outfit TWR in running the team. Two new drivers – 1996 World Champion Damon Hill and Brazilian Pedro Diniz, who had moved from Ligier, and new engine supplier Yamaha marked a new beginning for the team. The highlight of the year came at the Hungarian GP, where Hill qualified third and led for most of the race to finish second. Diniz scored two points at the Nürburgring and finished the season in sixteenth place in the Drivers’ Championship, with two points, four places behind team-mate Hill.
