Twice world champion Emerson Fittipaldi tested the first Spirit 101 car powered by Hart 415T turbo engine at Jacarepagua before the 1984 season with Topolino Mickey Mouse livery, aiming to sign a deal with the team. He was shocked by how uncompetitive the car was and how little difference his skill made against cars with more powerful engines. He promptly decided against signing for Spirit, left to find a drive in Indycars and got a highly successful second career in CART.
