The 2012 Ferrari F1 chassis was designed by Pat Fry, Nikolas Tombazis and Nicolas Hennel with Luca Marmorini leading the engine and electronics design. Like most 2012-specification cars, the F2012 featured a ‘stepped nose’ to conform to new FIA safety regulations. which state that any car part ahead of the front wheels must not be higher than 55cm above the reference plane. Fernando Alonso won three Grand Prix (in Malaysia, Valencia and Germany) and recorded a lot of podiums, but finished the season runner-up for the second time in his career on 278 points. His partner Felipe Massa achieved only two top-3 finishes (2nd in Japan and 3rd in Brazil) and was 7th in the championship with 122 points.
