





The 2012 season was first for the Lotus F1 Team, successor of Lotus Renault GP which competed in 2011, The Lotus Renault and Team Lotus was the continuation of the line Toleman – Benetton – Renault. In 2010, Renault sold a majority stake in the team to Genii Capital, a Luxembourg based investment company. Since 2011, Lotus Cars became involved with the team and the team was renamed, first to “Lotus Renault GP” for 2011 season, and then to “Lotus F1 Team” for 2012 season. The E20, powered by Renault RS27-2012 engine, was designed by Martin Tolliday, chief designer, with James Allison as technical director of the team. The E20 was the twentieth Formula One car to be designed at Enstone since 1992, and was named in tribute to their twenty-year history. Kimi Raikkonen returned from his two-year exercises in the World Rally Championship to drive for the team alongside Romain Grosjean. Kimi scored a lot of podiumd and a victory at the Abu-Dhabi Grand Prix and finished the season 3rd, behind only Vettel in Red Bill and Alonso in Ferrari. Grosjean was 6th, and the Lotus F1 Team finished 4th in the Constructors’ championship. At the Monaco Grand Prix Lotus used a special livery to celebrate its 500th race, inspired by Angry Birds. The name of alternative rock band Linkin Park was also displayed on the car at the same Grand Prix to promote an iPad application.
