Lotus 59 (F3) and 59B (F2) was designed by Dave Boldwin and was made by Lotus to compete in minor formulas in 1969 season. The car was built around complex square tube space frame, was powered by Cosworth FVA engine and proved to be not very efficient in aerodynamic respect, but very well handled. Quasi-works Roy Winkelmann racing team with Graham Hill and Johen Rindt dominated the season but both drivers were graded drivers ineligible for European F2 Championship points. 25 years old Ronnie Peterson, 1968 and 1969 Swedish F3 champion, debuted in F2 for Roy Winkelmann in non-championship 1969 Albi Grand prix, where he finished 5th.
