Japanese major formula championship, now known as Japanese Super Formula, was held in 1996 – 2012 as Formula Nippon. In the 2002 season all teams had to use Reynard chassis and Mugen Honda (Mugen MF308) engines. Japanese Seiji Ara drove 1999 car Reynard 99L for Olympic Kondo Racing Team. The team founded by Japanese singer, actor and former racing car driver and manager  Masahiko Kondō  was active in Japanese motor racing in 2002 – 2010. In the 2002 season Ara scored 3 points and finished the year 11th. He raced in Formula Nippon until 2009, and in Japanese GT until 2021, but his biggest success was win in Le Mans 24 hours in 2004 in Audi R8 with Rinaldo Copello and Tom Kristensen.
