Japanese major formula championship, now known as Japanese Super Formula, was held in 1996 – 2012 as Formula Nippon. In the 2003 season Formula Nippon’s contract with Reynard had expired and all teams had to use Lola chassis (Lola B3/51) and Mugen Honda (Mugen MF308) engines. Japanese veteran 36 years old Naoki Hattori in the 2003 season drove for DoCoMo Team Dandelion Racing, one of the oldest and major Super Formula team, founded in 1989 by Kiyoshi Muraoka as “Dandelion Racing Project”. Hattori achieved not much success that season finishing 13th in the championship with the only top-6 finish (4th) at Mine Circuit. Naoki spent two more years in Formula Nippon, and four more seasons in Japanese GT before ending his career after the 2007 season.
