James Hinchcliffe was one of the four regular entries by Andretti Autosport – together with Alexander Rossi, Colton Herta and Ryan Hunter-Reay. Hinchcliffe drove the car #29 for Andretti Steinbrenner Autosport, an entry in partnership with Steinbrenner Racing, led by George Michael Steinbrenner IV, the son of the late New York Yankees co-owner and co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner and a grandson of George Steinbrenner III. In the majority of the races (11 of 16) Hinchcliffe’s car was painted in orange livery backed by Genesys, an American software company. In five other starts (at Fort Worth, Nashville, Portland, Laguna Seca and Long Beach) Capstone Turbine Corporation, the world’s leading producer of low-emission microturbine energy systems, sponsored the entry and the car was painted in a green livery. Driving this green car Hinchliffe scored his only podium of the year, finishing 3rd at Nashville. He was replaced in the team by Devlin DeFrancesco for the 2022 season.
