British truck racing team led by Chris Hodges used Russian ZiL chassis since 1990, when Chris met ZiL team at ETRA round at Brands Hatch. Initially Hodges put the same engine as the works team – 600 hp Cummins L10 diesel, but coupled with another gearbox – automated Allison NT-754, while works team used mechanical Eaton gearbox. In the 1992 season Caterpillar 3176 diesel engine capable of 900 hp was installed instead of Cummins, and chassis was shortened. The modified car was nicknamed ‘Nikita’. In 1991-92 Hodges’ ZiL was piloted by Heather Baillie. In 1993 reigning two-time Class A champion (1991 and 1992 with Volvo White) Richard Walker joined Chris Hodges team and got short-based ‘Nikita’ truck. The team entered only few races of the ETR Cup, and Walker finished the season outside of top-5. However he was able to win the second race at Jarama – the final round of the championship. It was the only win of ZiL truck in the European truck racing. Walker also scored two more 2nd place finishes – at Nurburgring and in 1st race at Jarama. As to works ZiL team, Alexander Markin driving the yellow ZiL-Caterpillar #73, achieved three podiums (one 2nd place and two 3rd), and was classified 4th in the final Class A, his highest championship position ever.
