In the beginning of his racing career German Fritz Kreutzpointner raced in Le Mans for Sauber-Mercedes together with young Michael Schumacher and Karl Wendlinger and competed for Mercedes in the German Touring Car Championship and World Sportscar Championship between 1990 and 1992 with limited success. He returned to motorsport in mid-1990s to compete in the FIA European Truck Racing Championship and even won it on two occasions in 1999 and 2001. In the 1997 ETRC season Kreutzpointner continued to drive for TCH Truck Racing Team, and moved up a step compared to last season, becoming the vice-champion the Super Trucks Class behind Harri Loustarinen in Caterpillar TRD.
