The famous “Project 34”, known simply as six-wheeler, was revolutionary design by Derek Gardner. The car used four specially manufactured 10-inch diameter (254 mm) wheels and tyres at the front, with two ordinary-sized wheels at the back. P34 made his racing debut at Spanish GP, 4th round of the Championship in hands of Patrick Depailler. French driver retired at this race, but on the next round at Belgium his teammate Jody Scheckter drove P34 to its first points finishing 4th. South African driver brought to P34 its only victory in Sweden and collected a lot of podiums in other 1976’ races. Depailler also was regularly in top-3 that season but never on 1st position.
